A growing penchant for travel, that included taking a couple of periods of sabbatical leave to see the world, put paid to taking the risk of losing more trees. On these travels we saw so many interesting tropical and sub tropical trees just asking to be tried out as bonsai. We were lucky enough to go to a Bonsai exhibition at a Japanese school in Sydney and watch a demonstration on root pruning. The book 'Bonsai with Australian Native Plants' by Dorothy and Vita Koreshoff renewed our interest. On arrival home a small part of the garden became dedicated to antipodean shrubs and trees.
